Top 100 Most Noteworthy Mountains

In order to celebrate the "International Year of Mountains" in 2002 and help spread the importance and value of mountains, Korea’s National forest service compiled a list of the "Top 100 Noted Mountains.” Those Top 100 Noted Mountains were chosen in 2002 by a committee including climbing experts, academic circles, and journalists. This committee considered popularity, scale, ecology, beauty, history, etc. to narrow down 100 mountains out of 4,200 Korean mountains. Of these 100 Noted Mountains, 5 mountains are located on islands. Many Korean hikers dream of successfully mountaineering each of the Top 100 Noted Mountains. All mountains with desiginated National Parks are included in the Top 100 Noted Mountains.
